About the NZAIA

The New Zealand Association for Impact Assessment was first formed as the Association for Social Assessment (Inc.) (ASA) in mid 1990. ASA was based largely on the informal "Social Impacts Working Group" that had been in existence (along with its newsletter, SIAN - Social Impact Assessment Newsletter) since the early 1980's. In 1998, ASA revised its constitution and changed its name to the New Zealand Association for Impact Assessment.

NZAIA is a quasi-professional organisation. However, no professional pre-requisites exist for membership, but most of those who are members have had professional experience in the practise of social or environmental assessment. Our current membership is over 100 from a wide range of parts of New Zealand.
