The conference organising group comprises members of NZAIA and the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ), along with staff from the Secretariat for the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).

The Technical Programme Committee, an IAIA standing Committee, manages the actual content of the conference (sessions and papers, etc.), and sits under the umbrella of the Programme Committee.  Other responsibilities of the Programme Committee include the opening and closing plenaries, training courses, and technical visits.

Identifying potential local and regional sponsors, and providing that information to IAIA staff for follow up.

Promoting the conference to organisations, agencies, institutions, and communities; identifying potential exhibitors;  promoting to the media and assisting IAIA staff with marketing.
